Sawai Atsuhiro Sensei was born in 1939 in Japan. He met Nakamura Tempu Sensei in the 1950’s, became one of his closest students, and obtained the highest teaching credential in Shin-shin-toitsu-do, a form of Japanese yoga. Nakamura Sensei is the father of yogic meditation in Japan, where his teachings are studied by people from every walk in life.
Sawai Sensei was a full professor at Kyoto Sangyo University. He became Professor Emeritus of English in 2004. Since his retirement he has had several books on Nakamura Sensei’s teachings published in Japan. He is the leader of the Tenpu Juku in Kyoto (www.tenpujuku.com) and the President of the Kokusai Nihon Yoga Renmei (International Japanese Yoga Association), which promotes instruction in Shin-shin-toitsu-do around the world.
Sawai Sensei is a best-selling author of meditation books in Japan, and an in-demand lecturer/seminar leader. The True Paths to Meditation is his first book written for Western readers.
In 2004, Sawai Sensei became a special Senior Advisor to the Sennin Foundation Center, which is lead by H. E. Davey Sensei, a fellow IJYA official as well as Sawai Sensei's friend and colleague in Shin-shin-toitsu-do.
